Health ministers and senior officials from multiple countries gathered in Istanbul at a conference organized by the World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Office for Europe to strengthen preparedness for future earthquakes. The meeting focused on improving the resilience of hospitals and health infrastructure, particularly in regions at high seismic risk.

Participants emphasized that many health facilities remain vulnerable to major earthquakes and agreed on the importance of investing in safer hospitals, emergency preparedness, and coordinated disaster response. The discussions also reflected lessons learned from the devastating 2023 Türkiye-Syria earthquakes and highlighted the need to protect health services before disasters occur.
