The world HIV community is gearing up for one of the biggest health events of the year. The 26th International AIDS Conference (AIDS 2026) will be held in Rio de Janeiro Brazil from 26, 31 July 2026. Besides the physical venue in Brazil, the conference will be conducted virtually as well, allowing the participation of thousands of people from all over the world, as it is organized by the International AIDS Society (IAS).
Taking place under the motto “Rethink. Rebuild. Rise.”, AIDS 2026 is a global HIV response entering a critical phase as funding for the fight against HIV is becoming less available while countries still want to achieve the global target of ending AIDS as a public health threat by 2030.
Aside from scientists and healthcare professionals, the conference will bring together policymakers, community leaders, people living with HIV, civil society organizations, media representatives and international development partners to exchange views on the latest scientific breakthroughs and strategies for enhancing the prevention, treatment and care of HIV. The opening day of the conference will be devoted to unveiling cutting-edge research, holding policy discussions, community forums and workshops, as well as exhibiting the most recent developments in HIV prevention, long-acting treatment options, health equity and global collaboration.
It is also expected that international organizations, like WHO, will unveil during the conference, their latest HIV prevention diagnosis treatment and surveillance guidelines. Besides, AIDS 2026 will function as a critical vehicle, agenda or medium for governments and global health partners to take stock of what has been achieved, identify the sources of inequalities that have continuously existed and recommit themselves to the expansion of HIV services for the saving of lives. In particular for the most at-risk population groups.
Journalists from all over the globe will probably make detailed reports of the gathering.
The press conference for the official launch will take place on 27 July 2026 at the Riocentro Convention & Event Center in Rio de Janeiro, and accredited journalists will also have the option to attend it virtually.This being one of the biggest global meetings for HIV and AIDS issue, the conference will be determining international policy talks and the global HIV response development for the next years.
